Tiggy’s Momma asked:
I made a little mini scrapbook for my ultrasounds, and I want to laminate the pages but I cant use heat or the images will disappear. Any ideas?

They sell self-sealing/sefl-stick laminate — look for it at Wal-Mart or any craft store. I sometimes use if for photos I print off of my PC. It’s as simple as pulling apart the two layers and carefully placing the picture inside.
I buy sticky laminate at the craft store i go to. Its basically a notebook paper sized clear sticker.
The archival rule is to never do anything that can’t be un-done later. Please put non-sticky layers over the ultrasounds before encasing the sandwich with the cold-seal material.
Scan the pictures into your computer, print them out on photo quality paper, laminate away. This gives you a very good copy for your scrap book and a digital copy that you can make more prints from. (Be sure to back up the pictures on a CD ROM and you have them forever.)
The very best thing to do is to scan it into your computer. Print it out and use it in your scrapbook that way. The paper from the ultrasound machines do not last very long and if you have the “hard” copy in your computer, you will have it forever.
You can then print on card stock or photo paper for your scrapbook. If you do not have a scanner, go to a copy store and they can do it for you. Be sure to have them save the image on a CD for you.
For laminating, you can use a Xyron machine. They have a lot of possibilities…making stickers, magnets, laminating…. A must if you scrapbook as you can use it for other projects! (I made these totally cute magnetic invitations for my son’s be-day with it.)
Check it out: There are a few models and so you can select one based on what things you want it to do. It’s really, really easy to use. I have the 510.
Good luck!
Why laminate them? They make page protectors in a lot of sizes. If you can’t find some the size you need, I would make them with another size. Laminate is so permanent.
If you must…Xyron make a lamitating machine that does not use heat.
I have several ultrasound pictures that are laminated, they were done in 2005 and they are in excellent shape, also they are on a cd, which I scanned to know I will always have those copies. Laminating is permanent, but scanning like BooBoo said and then laminating is the best route. The scanned version were printed and used in the scrapbook, I still have the originals and a copy on a cd for a lifetime. Think outside the box, you see all the layouts out there and you wonder what and how they did it, step up and try something new. I make mini albums, the small pictures that are printed for these are laminated, the type I make are the die cut for the Quickutz Mini Album, so there are no sleeves for these, I make a ton for Christmas gifts, and such and laminate the pictures and adhere them down. Depending on the size of your album…the xyrons out there are a good choice, but if you don’t want to buy one, check out your local copier places and they can do it for you as well. I hope the best works out for you, but rest assure, there are ways to get those ultrasound pictures to remain “pictures”.
Use a cold laminator. There are many brands to choose from: Xyron, Purple Cow, 3M.
OR use self laminating pouches:
OR scan your ultrasound for a non fading copy
Use a Xyron no-heat laminator… they come in many sizes and are available at most craft stores
Buy a roll of clear con-tac paper in the kitchen section at Wal-Mart. Just put it on both sides of your pages and trim it as needed.
